The line out

EDF Energy explains The Lineout . . . .

When the ball goes over the sideline the referee demands that is restarted by a lineout. The touch judge raises one arm in the air to indicate where the lineout is to be formed and uses his other arm to signal which team is going to throw the ball in. The number of players to take part in the lineout is determined by the team throwing the ball in and is usually decided by that team’s forward leader. The opposing team can choose to have fewer players in the lineout but they cannot have more.
